A map tool and database was published on 24 September 2016 by a coalition of partners – 350.org, Platform, Community Reinvest, Friends of the Earth – revealing that UK councils have invested £14 billion of their pension funds into fossil fuels.
Following the publication of the database, data crunching revealed that millions have been wiped of UK local government pensions due to coal crash.
Research shows however, that instead of climate catastrophe, local government pensions can fuel local futures.
